The purpose of this website is to inform about robotics research, robotics industry and robotics networks in Sweden and to support communication and networking with the Swedish robotics community.
Infonaut beliefs in the development of intelligent machines that can support humans of all ages for a safer, longer and better life. We have identified market signals and trends that indicate a breakthrough for next generation robotics.
  • On March 25th, 2005, the Toyota partner robot orchestra entered the stage at the 2005 World Exhibiton in Aichi, Japan, demonstrating Japan's leadership in humanoid robotics.
  • On October 8th, 2005, five autonomous ground vehicles successfully completed the 131,6 mile course in the Mojave Desert, USA. It was a milestone in mobile robotics and demonstrated USA's leadership in field robotics. The next challenge will be Urban Challenge recently announced by U.S. Department of Defense Agency DARPA. In november 2007 teams will compete with autonomous vehicles able to complete a 60-mile urban course safely in less than 6 hours.
  • On October 7th, 2005, the European Robotics Platform – EUROP, as part of EU's i2010 initiative was launched, aimed at boosting the development of robotic businesses within Europe and at bringing the benefits of capable robots to the service of European citizens.
The year 2005 will be remembered as the year of robotics marking the beginning of a new technological era.
Robotics in Sweden
Sweden is one of the world's most automated economies. According to United National Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) report - World Robotics 2005 -  Sweden has one of the highest densities of industrial robots with 107 robots per 10.000 employed in the manufacturing industry. Today the number of industrial robots in operation is estimated at 7500 units. Handling and welding are the predominant applications for industrial robots. More than 40 percent of industrial robots are operational in the motor vehicle industry and 19 percent in the fabricated metal product industry.
Robots are used to perform tasks that require great levels of precision or are simply repetitive and boring. There are many service robots in operation that do jobs that are hazardous to people, such as building demolition, exploring shipwrecks, helping out after disasters, defusing bombs or mines. But robots are also increasingly marching into our offices and homes as autonomous vaccum cleaners, lawn mowers, body guards, and edutainers. In the future, robots will act as nurses, health experts, companions, butlers and even soldiers. The driving forces will be the increasing demand of higher productivity in industries and better welfare services for the increasing number of older people.
