I live and work in central Sweden in a small town
called Strangnas
, an old town with a history going back to the Viking era. Its
location on the shores of Lake Maelaren has made Straengnas an
important trading centre and meeting place down the ages.
Today Strangnas is a very dynamic "Future City" in the heart
of
Stockholm Region, one of the fastest growing
regions in Europe. The town is part of the Stockholm BioRegion
called Biotech
Valleyand has been selected by Pfizer as the
company's "world centre" for biological pharmaceptical production.
´s "world centre" for biological pharmaceptical
production.
Strangnas is also part of Robot Valley,
where world leading companies like ABB, Volvo and
Atlas
Copcocollaborate with the academic and public
institutions to secure Sweden as a world leader in the
manufacturing, research and development of robot-based
automation.
It is a privilege to live and work in one of the worlds most
developed information society and also the world leading democracy
according to a recent Economist study (
pdf).
My interest for Sweden started 30 years ago when I studied media
and political science in my former home town Salzburg, Austria. I
studied the political and social system, especially the countries
unique The
Freedom of the Press Act and The
Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression
After studies in visual communication and arts at the
Academy of Fine
Arts in Vienna, Austria where I got my Magister
Artium (mag.art) in1977 and I took the chance to establish in
Sweden, when I met my Swedish wife in Stockholm. It was in
Stockholm i entered cyberspace starting with studies in
Informatics, System Science and Management Cybernetics, at the
University of Stockholm, Sweden (1980-1982). Thanks to great
systems thinkers such as T.D. Bowler, Joël de Rosnay, J.G.
Miller, Stafford Beer, van Gigh First, and technology visioneers
like Prof. Kjell Samulesson and Prof.
Louise Yngstroem I got the chance to learn methods
and tools to analyze complex living systems and to imagine the
future. It was the start of exciting experiments with tele- and
video conferencing, projects for distance learning, extensive
networking and scenario building
At that time, 1980-1985, I was hired as an Information Secretary,
at the German Swedish
Chamber of Commerce in Stockholm, Sweden and got a
broad and deep insight in the open Swedish public and private
business infosphere by doing a lot market research, industry
analysis, company profiling etc. for our more than 1000 member
companies from Sweden and Germany. Thanks to my informatics studies
I became a pioneer and promoter in on-line retrieval of Swedish and
German business information.
In 1985 I got the chance to develop a new market intelligence
function at the German IT company Siemens
Data in Stockholm. I was at the time when personal
computing hit the market and the need of market analysis was huge.
I was occupied with analysis of the Swedish ICT-market, competitor
analysis. Later I became head of a business development team
responsible for strategy planning and marketing of high- growth
business units such as PCs, telecom, mobile phones, large printing
systems, GIS-systems. At that time I introduces computer assisted
market research and strategic planning applications at
